About
A campus app built around meeting people in person.
Quad is an independent project for University of Toronto students. It is not operated by, or officially affiliated with, the University of Toronto — it’s built by people who go here, for the people who go here.
The problem it’s trying to solve
A campus this size runs hundreds of events a week, spread across a dozen listing pages nobody checks all of. Most events apps stop at “here’s what’s on” — Quad’s position is that finding the event is half the job. The other half is whether you actually talk to anyone there, which is a different question from whether the event looks good on paper, and most products never ask it.
So events on Quad are read two ways at once: how well something fits what you’re into, and how likely you are to meet someone if you go — a 400-person lecture and a twelve-person board-games night can be an equally good fit and completely different evenings. Neither number is a popularity contest; both are structural facts about the room, knowable before anyone shows up.
The three parts of Quad
The event index. Every event we can find at UofT, ranked by fit and by whether you’ll meet anyone, filterable by what you actually care about — day, size, whether there’s food, whether it repeats.
Circles. Private group chat for the people you already know — your college, your residence floor, a club, a friend group — joined with a six-character code rather than a public server anyone can find. One inbox, plans that reach a real decision instead of dissolving into “so is Thursday good for everyone?”
Group Connect. An opt-in weekly group with a randomly chosen activity. You can turn it on when you want a nudge to meet someone new, and off when you don’t.
What it isn’t
Not a public feed, not a follower graph, not a leaderboard. Nothing on Quad counts how many people follow you, and nothing ranks you against anyone else. The one number the product is built around — how many times you’ve met someone — is private, one-sided, and never shown to anybody, including them.
Where it is now
Quad is early and built for University of Toronto students specifically. If something is broken, missing, or wrong about a listing, we want to hear about it — see Contact.
